The Date

17 Jun

He was standing alone in a desolated road leaning against a lamp post and taking in the beauty of the sun setting at the horizon. He was looking at this chaotic perfection, where the dark
met at the light, which made him relate it to his own life. He was the chaos in it, a chaos longing for its perfection. A darkness without its light. Though he couldn’t fathom what it was or what it meant. The emptiness was never ending and pointless. The sun set off into the west and the place was covered with a blanket of darkness, except for the light from the lamp post. Just as he was about to leave, he noticed a silhouette rush towards him. As it drew closer, he realized that it belonged to a girl. She had waist length hair, left loose, wearing a brown long sleeved t-shirt and baggy jeans. Her eyes were screwed hut and her face was bent down, her chin resting on her chest. She held onto the lamp post like her life depended on that. He kept looking at her, not sure what to do next. She took in a series of long breaths, nervousness clear in her features. She finally let her eyes flutter open, her hands still holding on to the lamp post and looked up at him. At that instant, he felt the world growing dim, her face was the only thing he could see. He finally knew what it was, he had found his light, his savior from the dark. The perfect match of perfection for his chaos. Her brown eyes perfectly synchronized with her black eyelashes and caramel skin. He kept looking at her, letting it fill in all the holes he thought would never go. She seemed confused and even helpless. But, he couldn’t think of anything else but her, her features, her beauty. He wanted to touch her. In a gallant move, he held out his hand to touch her cheek, though unsure of his actions, he wanted it desperately like an amputee who needs his limbs or a blind man who wants to see the things he could sense against his skin. She was shocked by his actions, but did not protest. He touched her cheek and let the warmth of his touch caress his whole body. He couldn’t take his eyes of her. She finally pushed his hand off her cheek and looked away. She again bent down her face and shrugged, unsure of the events that just happened. She finally made a move to leave, but he didn’t want to let go. He rambled up his thoughts and gently caught her by her arm and asked her out for her name. She nervously mumbled, “Neha”. He looked directly into her eyes and said, “I don’t know anything about you, even your name until a few minutes back. But I wanna get to know you. This may sound ridiculous but Neha, will you go out with me?”
